Benco Dental’s home office, CenterPoint East in Pittston, Pennsylvania recently hosted an evening filled with drumrolls, a balloon drop and the announcement of a new mission statement.
A few members of the leadership team for the largest independently owned dental distributor unveiled the new company mission statement on Wednesday evening in front of over 50 vendor partners. Vendor partners were in town for the annual Benco Leadership Forum, where equipment specialists, equipment support and regional managers attended seminars at Mohegan Sun in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, as well as a vendor fair where they were able to preview innovative products being released by these vendors in the near future.
Managing Directors Chuck and Rick Cohen were joined by two members of the Senior Leadership team, George Rable, VP Culture & People and Terry Barrett, Chief Marketing Officer, to share the exciting news with Benco employees and vendor representatives.
Over the last decade, the Mission statement had been, ‘We deliver success smile after smile’. The decision to revise it was motivated by the fact that Benco Dental is continually driving dentistry forward through innovation, as well as the family culture created over the last nine decades.
The mission statement is now, ‘We drive dentistry forward through our innovative solutions and caring family culture’.
With Benco being family owned and operated since 1930, those core family values are present throughout the company every day.
Chuck Cohen, one of Benco’s managing directors, spoke about the inspiration behind this change after the unveiling, “We really believe that our mission is to drive dentistry forward.”
Chuck Cohen discusses the inspiration behind Benco’s new mission statement.
The mission statement is just another example of how Benco Dental is setting itself apart from other dental distributors by focusing on the advancement of technology and services that help dentists to better serve their patients.
Benco looks forward to helping dentists be better at what they do through these innovative solutions and a caring family culture.
Two brothers, Julian and Cody Levine, joined in a mission trip to Eleuthera, Bahamas with Lenny Kravitz and his Let Love Rule Foundation in 2015 and returned with an idea that would allow everyone to enjoy the power that smile has to offer. That’s how they began creating Twice.
“We left (Eleuthera) determined to make a healthy smile accessible to everyone: by creating a product that would reflect the beauty, health and confidence embodied by the new smiles of our patients, then making sure that product gave back to the cause that inspired it all. Through years of research, development, and focused collaboration with industry experts, we were able to bring our vision to life.”
Julian and Cody Levine, according to SmileTwice.com
Drawn to giving back through dentistry
With two parents committed to philanthropy and innovation in the world of dentistry (their dad is renowned aesthetic dentist and prosthodontist Dr. Jonathan Levine and their mom is marketing authority Stacey Levine who championed the smile as the “centerpiece of beauty”) it’s no surprise that their sons decided to forge forward in the field. Dr. Jonathan and Stacey launched the GLO Good Foundation in 2010 to provide oral health care, tools, and education to those in underserved populations, giving them the gift of a healthy and confident smile.
Better brushing habits, more giving
After learning that 35% of people do not brush their teeth twice a day Julian and Cody Levine and Lenny Kravitz created Twice, a morning and night toothpaste.
“Our goal was to re-imagine brushing twice-a-day by creating an experience people would actually look forward to—every morning and every night.”
On the most recent trip to the Bahamas, Twice donated 700 tubes of toothpaste.
“Every purchase of Twice makes an impact. Through our partnership with the GLO Good Foundation, we commit 10 percent of our profits to funding more missions in Eleuthera and around the world.”
Early Bird offers a wintergreen and peppermint flavor that is designed for waking up and preparing for the day. Twilight, a blend of peppermint, vanilla and lavender presents the perfect flavor to unwind and relax at night.
Julian and Cody collaborate with GLO Good Foundation to provide oral care, tools, and education to underserved populations. The video below explains how they are changing lives by giving the gift of a healthy smile.
Sponsoring smiles among the Incisal Edge #IE40Under40
More recently, Cody and Julian attended the 2019 Incisal Edge 40 Under 40 photoshoot in NYC and offered an opportunity for two of America’s Best Young Dentists to participate an upcoming mission trip to Eleuthera.
Those who attended the 40 Under 40 photoshoot and cocktail reception were able to sample Twice toothpaste and enter to win the opportunity of a lifetime. Two honorees were selected in a random drawing during the reception, and courtesy of Twice, Dr. Kady Rawal and Dr. Mark M. Dawoud (shown at top with Cody and Julian Leving) will receive a dental mission trip to the Bahamas in collaboration with GLO Good. Below, view a video from the #IE40Under40 celebration:

Check out a restaurant recommended from an #IE40Under40 honoree and Chicago resident.
Chicago Magazine rates this hidden gem the second best restaurant in the city. With its contemporary feel and luxury ingredients, it’s no wonder that The Oriole is one of Chicago resident’s Dr. Wenfei Wang’s favorites. Dr. Wang, an Incisal Edge 40 Under 40 honoree in 2018, can’t wait for date nights at The Oriole with her husband, Dr. Alan Commet (shown at top).
In preparation for the upcoming 7th annual Lucy Hobbs Project Celebration in Chicago, October 3-5, (register today! ) attendees may be looking for hot spots to dine, and Dr. Wang is happy to offer a recommendation. “My favorite meals in the city have definitely been here,” said Dr. Wang.
The Oriole offers a 15-course, $195 fixed menu prepared by Executive Chef & Owner Noah Sandoval. Their specialty: impeccable flavor pairings of food and beverages.
“Their menu is designed to be a surprise set of courses, which is great for the indecisive eaters like me who hate to pick just a few items out of an amazing menu,” said Dr. Wang.
Dr. Wang attributes the ambience and food to the incredibly professional and knowledgeable staff. They work within a 28-seat space with an open kitchen, giving the restaurant a unique and special vibe.
This restaurant offers an opportunity for Lucy Hobbs Project Celebration attendees to try some new and different flavors while in the Chicago area this October.

On March 23, children and families visiting Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston received free chair-side dental screenings and oral health education. For the second year, the Benco Family Foundation has supported the ADA Give Kids A Smile Day event hosted at Tufts by providing toothbrushes, flossers and two-minute timers.
“Providing children with the dental supplies they need to practice good oral health care at home is part of the Benco Family Foundation mission to educate children on the importance flossing and brushing. We are dedicated to improving dental health in our local communities and proud to partner with Tufts at Give Kids A Smile Day,” said Rebecca Binder, Benco Family Foundation Executive Director.
The ADA’s Give Kids a Smile Day, created in 2003 by the ADA Foundation treats more than 5.5 million children per year, many with inadequate access to care. Cavities are the most common chronic disease of children in the United States: 80 percent of tooth decay is found in 20 to 25 percent of children, many of whom live in low-income households and do not have routine access to dental care. The faculty, staff, and students at Tufts, under the guidance of Dr. Martha Forero, provide a fun and educational environment for the oral health care of children at the Give Kids A Smile day, especially for those children without a dental home.
Since 2015, the Benco Family Foundation has assisted people worldwide through PRO-SYS® toothbrush donations with its Buy-One-Give-One program, and in that time has donated more than 1.1 million toothbrushes. For every PRO-SYS adult tapered or antimicrobial toothbrush purchased from Benco Dental, the philanthropic arm of America’s largest family-owned dental distributor donates a toothbrush to someone in need.
The Benco Family Foundation is dedicated to improving the dental health and quality of life in its local communities and around the world. Established in 2005, the foundation supports oral health solutions and community organizations that are innovative, sustainable, measurable and impactful.
