INQUIRING MIND: Inventor and Implant Specialist Dr. Samuel Lee

Inventor and implant specialist Dr. Samuel Lee spent a few moments speaking with Incisal Edge dental lifestyle magazine. His commentary illustrates why humility and curiosity are two of a dentist’s most useful tools.

“Without better techniques, dentistry would get boring. The International Academy of Dental Implantology is dedicated to research and education. New inventions always keep us busy; ours reduce radiation and provide less-invasive surgery with more accuracy. Simpler, minimally invasive treatment options are the key trends in implant dentistry. The digital world will dramatically change the way we do surgeries and implant restorations.

In 2008, I accidentally discovered a new way to lift the sinus internally. Ever since, I’ve been in love with teaching implant dentistry — so I pursued my doctoral degree in periodontics at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, and I’m now a full-time researcher and educator.

Dentistry is my hobby. The best part of dental education is meeting new colleagues every day; I enjoy the exchange of ideas. Clinical research to explore better treatment methods is the key to staying excited.”
