During a routine checkup at her family dentist’s practice in Edmond, Oklahoma, Journee Woodard, 11,  received lifesaving advice, according to a story by DailyMail.com.

Journee’s dental hygienist noticed the white of her patient’s eyes were an uncommon shade of yellow. The dentist, Dr. Michael Chandler, agreed that it did appear unusual. Per Dr. Chandler’s advice, Anna Woodard (Journee’s mother) took her daughter to a physician.

There, Journee’s physician ordered a CAT scan and MRI. The results of these tests showed that she had a large mass on her liver and pancreas, which ended up being about the size of a grapefruit.

Journee was admitted to the University of Oklahoma Children’s Hospital straight away and doctors wasted no time and rushed Journee into surgery.

She received a Whipple procedure during which parts of her pancreas, stomach, gall bladder and intestine were removed.

Thankfully, Mrs Woodard said Journee is in “good spirits.”
